Day Trips - St Albans Coach Hire

There are lots of great day trip destinations that are just waiting to be explored with St Albans Coach Hire. Set amid scenic Hertfordshire countryside, Stevenage is a town with Roman, Saxon and medieval origins. As a popular tourist town, it is rich in history and heritage and offers visitors views of classic period architecture as well as some interesting museums and a well-preserved old town centre.

Among Stevenage's most significant historical buildings is the ancient parish church of St Nicholas, which can be reached via The Avenue or Rectory lane in the old town. The church's oldest part dates back as far as the 12th century, with additions having been made during the 13th, 14th and 15th centuries. Visitors to the church can enter for free but should be aware that it is still a place of worship and must behave accordingly.

Close to Stevenage are a number of attractions worthy of a day trip. Knebworth House, with its fine architecture, and Rooks Nest House, famous for being the childhood residence of author EM Forster, are among the more popular. St Mary’s Church, with its ancient bell, is also worth seeing, while Fairlands Valley provides 120 acres of scenic parkland and is popular with water sports enthusiasts.

Old Stevenage was first inhabited by Saxon travellers, before later becoming the scene of several significant events in subsequent historical periods. The area now has conservation status and retains the distinctive character of an old village street. The Stevenage Museum is located in this area, as are an array of shops, restaurants and bars.

Both day and nighttime entertainment can be found at Stevenage Leisure Centre, which is home to a variety of sporting facilities as well as the Gordon Craig Theatre. This is the perfect place to finish the day trip before meeting the driver of your St Albans Coach Hire and being driven home in style.
